If you haven’t registered any payment information in your child’s device, it won’t be possible for them to make in-app purchases.
If payment information has been registered, you can set a password protection for purchases so that only purchases authorized by you can be made.
You can also disable in-app purchases on your device, the way to do it differs depending on the device your child is using.
